Android 2.2: The baby is growing.

Google I/O recently ended, but not without some great surprises. One of the hot topics of discussion were mobile, specifically the Android mobile platform.Android which started out as a baby considering the sort of competitors that were already dominating the market like RIM’S Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone,it is slowly but surely gaining massive popularity and with the recent improvements made to it are a clue to what is gonna be the future of it. At the recent Google I/O, Android 2.2(FroYo) was unveiled, which brings about some very good improvements from its predecessor.

Some of the improvements that have been made in the recent Android 2.2 are as follows,

1. The next version of Android has a JIT compiler and it delivers some great speed improvement, speeds will now be 2-5 times faster than they were previously.

2. Better enterprise functionality is one significant improvement, it has now 20 new enterprise features.These include

  • Better Exchange support, with auto-discovery.
  • Improved security.
  • GAL look-up.
  • New device admin APIs.

3. Chrome Apps, Google services,Chrome extensions can now be sync with your Android.

4. New feature called Tethering.

5. A new and faster browser.

6. One of the most wanted features has been to install apps on SD memory, previously you could not install apps on your removable memory card but now you will be able to install apps on your card as well as on the physical memory present in your phone.

7. Flash 10.1 and Adobe AIR support.

8. A web-based Android market is another feature that could do wonders in customizing your phone.

9. In FroYo there will be an “Update All” icon and the ability to allow “automatic updating” which would make life much easier in updating the apps.

10. Music player that it has is quite a decent one but more functionality has been added, now the users will be able to sync their local music collection with their Android device and will be able to stream wirelessly.
